Free Community Wreath Making Party

Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 1-5 pm

Welcome the holiday spirit into your heart. Make your own wreath - everyone helps everyone! We will have homemade wreath, swag and cross foundations, ornaments, floral wire, greenery and BOWS! If you have any of these you are welcome to bring them to use or donate. Free Door Prizes! Purchase Raffle Tickets for Other Great Prizes! This is such a fun, festive and FREE event. You can bring your own cookies or other snacks to share too. The schoolhouse will be decorated and the 100-year old woodstove will be keeping us all warm. Hot apple cider and coffee will be provided by the Venersborg Community Club. Due to the cost of ribbons, this year there will, unfortunately, be a limit of 1 foundation and 1 bow per person but you can purchase extras (while supplies last) for $1.00 each. You are welcome to bring your own/extras!

*This is also a great time to drop off your recipes for the future Schoolhouse Cookbook*

Raffle Prizes (so far):
$50 Olive Garden gift card
Subway Sandwich gift cards
Les Schwab Emergency car kits (2)
Homemade Soap by Kristina Salmi Klotz
Harley Davidson Collectibles
Fisher's Landing New Season's gift basket

Earthquake Night (get ready for emergencies)

What would you do if we had a big earthquake here and your home was damaged? What if we have a huge snowstorm and power is knocked out for a week? What if a family member is hurt and the road out of Venersborg is blocked?

How can we help and care for each other in emergencies?

Ret. Fire Chief and Venersborg resident MIKE SENCHYNA shows us how to prepare for disasters and times when we may need each other's help. Learn what to have on hand in your home and what we need in Venersborg, too. We'll work together to create an emergency meeting place at the schoolhouse and find out what skills we each have that we can contribute in an emergency. All Venersborg residents are invited and encouraged to attend.

Monday, Nov. 7th at 7pm

Heirloom Apple Fest

Every fall we host an Heirloom Apple Tasting with 200+ different and unusual varieties to sample and nearly all of them are delicious. Some apples taste like honey, bananas, strawberries while some of the tart ones pucker up your mouth like you just sucked on a lemon (these make great cider). Other apples smell like roses and pineapples. Some are long and narrow, some have red flesh and purple skin, others are white as snow. Some are breeds from the 1600s and a few have been around longer than that even. Admission lets you sample as many as you'd like. Just point and we'll give you a taste of each of them. Come hungry!

What can you do at the Apple Fest?
Taste all 200+ apples
Get your apple trees identified so you know what they are
Order heirloom apple trees to plant at home in spring
Eat homebaked apple delights and hot cider
Enter your name in the raffle for the beautiful handmade quilt and ten other homemade/homegrown prizes.

Watch apple pie demos by local pie-making experts and learn their secrets
Make an apple pie to bake at home!
Tours of the old school and its history given throughout the day

Admission is $5, kids under 16 are free. Apple tasting, tree identification, pie making demo and school tours are all included in admission.
